Random Singles part four

I'll go ahead an apologize for my tardiness in posting submitted albums. I just completed a move into Cass Corridor of Detroit and I've got some kinks to work out. Additionally, my iPhone's audio jack has finally totally fucked off and I have no internet in my new apartment. However, on the plus side this blog gives me a reason to hit up the local breweries every night where wifi can be found. I plan to post another batch of EPs and get some full-length albums up real soon too. Finally, these are all free singles via bandcamp as usual.

Go Cozy - Glimmer

This is a real gem of a single. I found these two songs to be rather lovely dream pop/shoegaze. They have a good amount of upbeat-ness that makes the quite replayable. I look forward to any future release by Go Cozy.






RACES - Big Broom/Living Cruel and Rude 7"

From Los Angles this band has some madly swell harmonic indie rock. The duet parts in the second track are wholly worth downloading this. The digital copy is name your own price, but there's a limited run of vinyl for $5.99 available.






The Clap - The Operation/Lucy 2 7"

Excited psychedelic punk from Atlanta. Quick, fuzzy and full of energy, these guys have a catchy sound. Another of their tracks appeared on a previous post of singles a few months back and good to see they've kept on producing good tunes.






Faustine Seilman & The Healthy Boy - The Long Life's Journey

This might be more of an three song EP, but this has languished in my inbox too long to fret over it. This is an atypical submission for sure. It is piano and guitar folk music driven largely by the stunningly beautiful vocals. The contrast between the female vocalists soft and skilled singing to the very deep and world-weary sounding male are unbelievable.

Random Singles part three

These are submitted singles that have been showing up in my inbox. They're good but not long enough to merit an entire post to themselves, just like parts one and two in this series. Basically, they're short and sweet, so hear it up, dog.

Yall - Gum (2011) [320 kbps]

This band has previously had their release Drink From Between Our Hair posted on the blog. This single is a follow up that demostrates the same chaotic math rock. Rather intense for sure.

Kent State - Spahn Ranch EP (2011) [192 kbps]

Lo-fi shoegaze that's catchy and extremely easily relistened to. The artist described it as, "Maybe something like Guided By Voices meets Ride or Swervedriver." Pretty apt and pretty neat. There's also a cool single available on the same page called Challenger B/W 2814. And like always I put an EP in the singles post...







Kyle Haish - Ibercius Fasms (2011)

A very brief set of tracks from a musician that's been shilling his stuff over p2p chat rooms. I can't imagine that gets one very far, but seeing as how I found his noise experiments (for lack of a better name) pretty neat, figured I'd throw it up here. It is abstract and not really melodic at all, but interesting nonetheless.






The Clap - Juvenile Cassingle b-side (2011)

The Clap, the funniest of STD's to talk about, as well as a wild band. This is really just the b-side to a cassette single put out by Pink House Tapes. It is strange though, like it is a great psych-garage track of sorts then it fades what I assume is a cat purring with sparse sounds laid over. Can't claim to have heard that before.

Random Singles part two

Took a bit of a break cause it was my birthday and I wanted to drink beer and listen to music without thinking about how to write it up. However, isolation can get real boring as well. I have some singles and EPs sitting about that I feel like putting up today.

The Dirtbombs - Kick Me 7" (2010) [256 kbps]

Naturally awesome as most everything Mick Collins touches is. "Kick Me" and the b-side "The Crunch" as lo-fi rock and roll of the sorts that made me really come to love the Dirtbombs in the first place.

The Potential Johns - The Potential Johns 7" (2007) [256 VBR kbps]

This is largely because somebody complained that I was putting up a bunch of garage rock and lo-fi shit and their favorite band, the Potential Johns, wasn't among what I'd picked. Well, truth be told they're not the easiest band to find but they are good garage punk.

Brut Choir - Barest Bones (2011)

I was given the heads up on this act by the fella from Liquid Skulls. While I've enjoyed the times I listened through it I have been lazy about posting it up. Eerie, droning, post-punk that both gives me joy and the willies. This EP is available for free or name your price on bandcamp.

King Khan - The Velvet Monobrow (2007) [128 kbps]

Apologies for the shitty bitrate, but this single gets me all worked up. I've seen this tagged all sorts of ways, but I am pretty sure this is a solo single by King Khan. Despite the title of the release, the songs are "Ain't It Sad" and "Never Enough," with the former being the sappiest song may have ever done. Reminds me intensely of Lou Reed and that is about the best thing I can ever say about anything.

Random Singles part one

I always get a variety of singles sent to me by artists and labels in hopes I'll shill them to the readership here. Promoting music is more or less the raison d'être for Spacerockmountain, so accordingly here are several singles and an EP that I have been meaning to throw up and finally got around to listening to.

Bourgeois Heroes - Olé/Hola

This is a recent release from February Records, which I do believe is Connecticut-based. Really lovely and mellow indie pop songs. Very easy to get into.

Seized Up! - Seized Up! EP

Full disclosure here, this is a band of a fella that I went to high school with. It is a bit more pop-punk than I usually share on Spacerockmountain, but it certainly has it merits. Good musicians if you dig this genre, and they're just sitting in Detroit waiting for you to bother them to tour I bet.

The Bynars - Asking Your Mom for Money

Snyth-pop from Boston if I'm not mistaken. I don't know why I do not share snyth-pop more often. I really do think it pretty swell. This track is catchy and you might find yourself listening to it a few times over without growing weary at all.

Phantogram - Mouthful of Diamonds

Last but far from least, some electronic pop. If this track is any indication of what Phantogram is capable of producing I am super-jazzed to see what they'll have coming out in the future. This is superb music with some stunning singing to boot.
